Serendipity: Antiques, Artwork & Goodies

Family PhotoTom at Counter - 50 percent

Proprietors Tom Miller and Mary MacBlane purchased the 1850’s vintage residence at 450 S. Main Street in N. Syracuse on April Fools day in 1999, at auction by Bernie Brzostek.  It seemed only appropriate that an antique shop be purchased at auction, and be in one of the oldest homes in the village!  Serendipity opened the following November, and we welcome you to come and see what we have.

Tom has collected cut glass for over 30 years and has a very nice selection at the shop.  Glass makes a great gift for a special occasion, like wedding or special anniversary.  Tom and Mary (husband & wife) live in antique furniture, mostly oak and Birdseye maple.

The store is opened from 11 AM to 5 PM from Monday through Saturday, and is often opened until 6 PM on Thursday and Friday.  In the summer Tom closes at ~4pm for his golf league match at Green Lakes State Park.  Since it is a family business, it would be good to call to be sure we are opened, if you are traveling a long way, especially if you will be arriving around closing time … Tom likes to sneak out early, especially on a golf night (Tues. in the Summer) or to attend a meeting of a Woodworking Association (SWWA), Syracuse Stage, etc., etc.

Tom spends most of his day repairing and restoring items in the back of the store.  In the beginning, most of the jobs were for the store, but now most of his time has been committed to
doing jobs for customers.  He even carved a new couch foot for one customer, whose dog had pretty much eaten the original foot.  Came out pretty good!  Tom, who is absolutely petrified when talking in public, has given lectures on the history of glass to a BOCES class on antiques.  To his surprise, it seemed to go very well, at least that’s what Mary said.

Mary is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at the Gallisano Children’s Hospital at Upstate University Hospital.   She loves her work, but also loves antiques and will often be found in the store on Saturdays.

If you need a place to have lunch or dinner, I can highly recommend Nestico’s Restraunt.  The food and service are GREAT.

If you would like to contact Tom and/or Mary, call (15-458-5999 or send an email: Serendipity@CentralNY.twcbc.com (store, best) or Serendipity@twcny.rr.com (home).
If
you found an area that needs attention, I’d appreciate an email. Encouraging emails are always appreciated!

Thanks for visiting.  Happy Trails.
