Serendipity

Serendipity: Antiques, Artwork & Goodies

Family PhotoTom at Counter - 50 percent

Proprietors Tom Miller and Mary MacBlane purchased the 1850’s vintage residence at 450 S. Main Street in N. Syracuse on April Fools day in 1999, at auction by Bernie Brzostek.  It seemed only appropriate that an antique shop be purchased at auction, and be in one of the oldest homes in the village!  Serendipity opened the following November, and we welcome you to come and see what we have.

Tom has collected cut glass for over 40 years and has a very nice selection at the shop.  Glass makes a great gift for a special occasion, like wedding or anniversary.  Tom and Mary (husband & wife) live in antique furniture, mostly oak and Birdseye maple.

Since Covid, the store is usually opened Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 am to 5 pm, and can usually stay open later if you call ahead and are on your way.  We are sometimes opened on Thursday and/or Friday, if the mood is right and the creek is low. Since it is a family business, it would be good to call to be sure we are opened if you are traveling a long way, especially if you will be arriving around closing time … Tom likes to sneak out early, especially on a golf night or to attend a meeting of a Woodworking Association (SWWA), Syracuse Stage, etc., etc.

Tom also does furniture repair and restoration in his spare time, mostly in his barn at his home. One of his favorite jobs was to carved a new couch foot for a customer, whose dog had pretty much eaten the foot.  Came out pretty good!  Tom, who avoids talking in public, has given a few presentation on the history of glass and the care of antiques.

Mary is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at the Gallisano Children’s Hospital at Upstate University Hospital.   She loves her work, but also loves antiques and will often be found in the store on Saturdays.

If you need a place to have lunch or dinner here in N. Syracuse, I can recommend Just One Bite, Nestico’s Restraunt and Twin Trees III.  The food and service are GREAT, tell them “Hi” for us.

If you would like to contact Tom and/or Mary, call 315-458-5999 or send an email: Serendipity@CentralNY.twcbc.com (store, best) or TomMiller@twcny.rr.com (home).
