OCADA

The Onondaga County Antique Dealers Association (OCADA) was founded 52 years ago to support the antique businesses in Onondaga County     that made a commitment to be exemplary in their dealing with the public and each other, specifically relative to the professional and forthright way they ran their businesses.  The group currently has about 20 members and meets monthly to support each other and learn about antiques.

In that respect, each meeting typically includes a presentation about a specific antique area, e.g., Chair Canning, Salt Glazed Stoneware, 18th Century Arms Restoration, Flo Blue/Mulberry, American Sterling Silver, and 18th/19th Century Antiques were subjects discussed during 2002.  The meetings take place in a members home, and typically includes a tour of that dealers most treasured antiques.

To promote a feeling of confidence in the minds of the antique buying public, the OCADA Code of Ethics is hereby set forth:

  1. The sale of antiques as genuine or original when they are not is condemned.
  2. Each member shall disclose the full nature and extent of repairs, replacement or imperfections in any article to a prospective buyer.
  3. Misrepresentation of any sort, in regard to an article of antique or semi-antique status, is against the standards of this Association.
  4. Failure of any member to accept the return, within a reasonable length of time, any article proven to have been misrepresented at the time of the sale is condemned.
  5. Members shall whenever the occasion arises make only fair and honest statements regarding their fellow dealers.
  6. Any violation of the foregoing Code of Ethics by a member shall subject the violating member to such disciplinary action as the Committee or the Code of Ethics shall recommend.  Such disciplinary action shall be taken by the Committee in accordance with the rules and by-laws of the Association and the approval of the Executive Committee.
